Norwegian police open parallel probes into Telenor over Myanmar operations
Norway’s PST and Kripos have opened parallel investigations into Telenor ASA over its Myanmar business. Kripos alleges complicity in crimes against humanity for handing over customer traffic data from Feb 1, 2021 to March 25, 2022; PST alleges sanctions-law breaches in the sale of surveillance equipment.
Norway’s Police Security Service (PST) and the National Criminal Investigation Service (Kripos) have opened separate investigations into Telenor ASA concerning its Myanmar operations. Kripos has charged Telenor with complicity in crimes against humanity for allegedly handing over historical customer traffic data to the military regime between the February 1, 2021 coup and Telenor Myanmar’s sale on March 25, 2022. PST has charged the company with breaches of sanctions law, alleging the sale of sanctioned surveillance equipment during the divestment without Ministry of Foreign Affairs approval. PST and Kripos carried out a joint search of Telenor’s Fornebu headquarters under Oslo District Court decisions.
